About Us

Dr. Calder earned her DVM from the Mississippi State University A graduate of Mississippi State University but native of New Jersey, Dr. Calder has lived and practiced veterinary medicine in both New Jersey and Maine for many years. In addition to general practice, Dr. Calder has worked at the San Francisco SPCA, Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and Louisiana State University’s School of Veterinary Medicine. Most recently, she was an Assistant Clinical Professor in Community Veterinary Services and Veterinary Behavior at Mississippi State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. As a general practitioner, she always had an interest in animal behavior and in 2016, she finished a residency with the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists becoming a Diplomate with the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists (DACVB) in 2017. In addition to her own behavior referral practice, Dr. Calder is the Chief Behavior Officer for CattleDog Publishing and a Vets at VIN Consultant. She has a special interest education and in the preparation for veterinary students to help them be “Day One” ready for practice.

Lieutenant Colonel Desiree Broach attended the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine and has been Active Duty in the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps since graduating in 2008. In 2016, she completed a dual-residency with the American College of Veterinary Behavior and the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, as well as a Masters of Science in Biology. She became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists in 2017. She continues to serve in the Army, and her current assignment is the Director of the Veterinary Medical Center Europe in Kaiserslautern, Germany. She is married to her husband Eddie, has two children Alayna and Conner, and a dog named Gabe.

Pat Koven, LVT, KPA-CTP is the Customer Engagement Specialist at CattleDog Publishing®. She currently owns her own training and behavior modification company, Haulin’ Aus, Inc, which serves clients around the world. She and her staff offer a variety of classes, both basics and specialized, and private consultations for behavior concerns.

Pat’s love for animal education shows in her passion, pet-assisted therapy. As a Chapter Leader for the national organization, Love on a Leash, she and her Australian shepherd, Willy, visit libraries, nursing homes, children’s centers and hospitals while teaching and supervising 40+ volunteers in her home state of Maine. Pat has coauthored the Therapy Dog Team Training Course for the Karen Pryor Academy.

As a licensed veterinary technician for over 35 years, she has trained and supervised many staff members, in both clinical and behavioral skills. In her shelter experience, she developed less stressful behavior evaluations and behavior modification methods for all new animal arrivals to increase adoption rates and decrease length of stay. She developed training programs for all shelter animals using rewards based methods in addition to individualized training plans for longer-term residents and behavior cases. Pat enjoyed teaching about positive reinforcement methods and clicker training.

Pat has been an LVT since 1993, has a BA in Journalism and graduated as a Certified Training Partner from the prestigious Karen Pryor Academy in 2019.

Serena uses her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Studio Art to create compelling marketing campaigns. When she isn’t creating content and analyzing trends, she is the administrator to the Low Stress Handling® University. Growing up with seven animals, she developed a deep appreciation for their unconditional love. However, after the seventh pet, she became allergic. She shows her love for animals through her work at CattleDog Publishing®.

Dr. Lilly received her DVM from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2011 and spent 4 years in the trenches of general practice. She completed a specialty internship in Behavior Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, in a partnership between Francisvale Home for Smaller Animals and Penn Vet. Dr. Lilly followed her internship with a Behavioral Medicine Residency at The Ohio State University and joined the faculty. She is Fear Free Elite, Shelter Certified, and Low Stress Handling® Silver Certified. She is with CattleDog Publishing, the legacy of Dr. Sophia Yin.

Coming down from the Sierra Foothills of Jamestown, CA, this mountain man loves all things nature as much as tech. His passion for new technologies and software led him to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Digital Film and Video Production at the Art Institute of Sacramento. His focus was on video editing and motion graphics, which he happily utilizes at CattleDog Publishing®. He manages the vast number of media produced by Dr. Yin and embellishes it to create new content. One fact to know is that Ben is not a cat person, so bring on the dogs.

Sandra is a veterinary technician with over twenty years of experience and a veterinary technician specialist in anesthesia and analgesia (VTS Anesthesia & Analgesia) since 2008.
Born in New Jersey, Sandra moved to Massachusetts in 1999 and currently lives with her partner, 2 cats, and 2 dogs. Sandra worked as an anesthesia technician at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University for 12 years before switching to behavior in 2016. She became a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KSA) in 2017 and a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner (KPA-CTP) in 2019. Sandra is also a Fear Free Certified® Professional and Low Stress Handling® Certified. Sandra finds working one-on-one with clients to solve challenging behavior problems most rewarding.

Katharine has had a life-long dream of communicating with animals. After graduating as a veterinary technician from Algonquin College, she immediately started to shadow and later work with Dr. Wilson. She is passionate about Fear Free® and has attained Elite Professional Certification. She is a certified trainer through the Karen Pryor Academy and has completed several other courses, including a hands-on course with Ken Ramirez and the Puppy Start Right course created by Dr. Kenneth Martin and Debbie Martin. She was a speaker at the OAVT conference in 2020 on several behavior topics and has also published articles on her own and with Dr. Wilson for the RVT Journal and CommuniVet.

Traci first became aware of Low Stress Handling® when she took one of her dogs to a local veterinarian who happened to be a close friend of Dr. Sophia Yin. It was there that she learned some basic techniques to help her dog feel safe and secure during a very scary time, medically. Since then, Low Stress Handling® has become part of everyday life for her “fur kids”. She joined the CattleDog Publishing team in June of 2016 as a part-time bookkeeper. Today, she helps in many different areas. Though her main role is still technically bookkeeping; she is also responsible for overseeing the entire ordering process from the time an order is placed to when it ships out. She works closely with the rest of the CDP team to ensure that the entire process runs smoothly. When not plugging in numbers or processing orders, she can be found assisting Serena with marketing and conference plans.

People are Cheryle’s passion which has led her to the CattleDog Publishing® Office Manager position. Her background working in client service includes working in retail during (and after) her studies in early childhood development and speech pathology. She went on to be a pre-school teacher and a mom. When her children got older, a favor for a
friend to fill in at a veterinary hospital during a receptionist’s maternity leave grew into an office manager position at a veterinary practice. She loved helping clients and finding solutions. She brings that solution based focus to CDP where she responds to Low Stress Handling® University learners, routes payments, handles store shipping, manages inventory and a multitude of other tasks necessary to keep things flowing in the Davis office.

She shares her life in Davis with her dog Mishka, her cats Lucifer, Kiwi, Pibb, and Squirt, as well as her human family, Dusty, Cora, and Devin.

Pegi is the Veterinary Partner content editor for CattleDog Publishing. She was born in Southern California and grew up both there and in Minnesota. She studied English, journalism, and creative writing, and wrote for local newspapers. Pegi settled in northern Nevada near the California border with her husband, two kids, and many subsequent generations of horses, dogs, cats, and a couple of opinionated parrots. When not feeding all those animals, she spends her free time reading mystery novels, writing fiction, and watercolor painting.

Sherrie is a registered veterinary technician of over 20 years and a veterinary technician specialist in behavior (VTS- Behavior) since 2011. She is currently a faculty member of the Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Behavior and Training. Sherrie was employed by the NC State University, College of Veterinary Medicine, Behavioral Medicine Service for 5 years: contributing to behavioral research, providing behavior modification, and educating students, staff and clients. She is a Fear Free Elite Certified® Professional (Canine/Feline/Equine) and contributor to Fear Free® curriculum and certification standards.” Additionally, Sherrie is an Educator for Family Paws an Editorial Advisory Board Member for Today’s Veterinary Nurse and President of the Academy of Veterinary Behavior Technicians.
